Debra Stuart, Chairman

Together, we’re not just raising funds—we’re rebuilding the heart of Old Hurst. Thank you for being part of it.

Our Mission

The Old Hurst Village Hall Committee is on a heartfelt mission to rebuild a much-missed community space that was lost in 2016 when the original hall had to be demolished for safety reasons. For decades, this humble building was the beating heart of our small village—bringing people together for social events, learning opportunities, and vital support, especially for our older residents and those with additional needs. With your support, we’re working to restore not just a building, but a sense of togetherness, belonging, and community spirit that Old Hurst truly cherishes.

The Old Hurst Village Hall Committee Overview

Fundraising Goals

The Committee’s immediate focus is on raising funds to construct a new, sustainable, and fully accessible village hall. The rebuild will be financed through a combination of:

  • Major grants (e.g., National Lottery Reaching Communities)

  • Community fundraising events

  • Local authority support

  • Private donations and sponsorships

They are also in the process of converting to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) to meet funder requirements and strengthen governance.

Vision for the Future

The new village hall will serve as a modern, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable hub for all residents. It will feature:

  • A large, multi-use hall

  • A fully equipped kitchen

  • Accessible toilets and entrances

  • On-site parking

  • Energy-efficient features like solar panels and a ground source heat pump

Community Impact

Once built, the hall will:

  • Host events such as fitness classes, coffee mornings, quiz nights, and children’s groups

  • Provide a social lifeline for isolated or less mobile residents

  • Encourage lifelong learning and community volunteering

  • Reduce the need for travel to access services, improving both quality of life and environmental outcomes

Long-Term Sustainability

The Committee plans to ensure the hall’s sustainability through:

  • A structured operations plan

  • Volunteer and staff support

  • Ongoing community input and feedback

  • A robust financial and maintenance strategy

In short, the fundraising is not just about constructing a building—it’s about restoring a central part of village life that promotes inclusion, well-being, and community cohesion for generations to come.

Your generosity, time, and enthusiasm mean more than words can say. Every ticket bought, every prize donated, every helping hand, and every smile shared brings us one step closer to restoring a vital space for connection, celebration, and community life in our village.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Johnsons of Old Hurst, who have gone above and beyond to support our cause.

Their generosity in donating their venue for events and hosting us at their craft fayres has been invaluable. Their commitment to our village and its future means the world to us.
